Air compressor gauges and valves

Replacement gauges and valves for compressor tanks, air receivers and the line coming off them.

What this work involves

A compressor is one of the few machines in a workshop that runs unattended, and the two things that tell you it is behaving are the gauge on the tank and the valve that holds the tank's air in. Both are consumable. A gauge that has been knocked, or one whose needle no longer returns to zero, is the part people put up with for far too long.

Our gauges are bottom connection with a brass stem, which is the pattern used on compressor tanks, receivers, regulator bodies and air line manifolds. They are the same gauges the tyre trade has bought from us for years; the trade was simply never the limit of what they fit.

How they are used

The gauge screws into the port on the tank, the regulator or the manifold, dial facing out, and is read from in front. The connection size is taken from that port rather than from the old gauge, which may itself have been adapted.

The non return valve sits between the pump and the tank. When the pump stops, the valve closes and the tank keeps its air instead of pushing it back through the pump. A compressor that will not hold pressure overnight, or that struggles to restart against its own tank, is very often a tired non return valve rather than a tired pump.

Who this is for

Compressor mechanics and annual maintenance technicians, air line installers, factory and plant maintenance fitters, and compressor dealers keeping a spares counter.

Also the workshop owner who simply wants to read the tank again: spray painters, carpenters, fabricators, small engineering units, tyre shops and vehicle workshops.

Choosing between them

Three things decide fit. The connection - we offer 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch bottom, brass. The dial - 2 inch to read in the hand, 2.5 inch (63 mm) as the general workshop size and the one most tanks take, 4 inch to be read across a bay. The range - pick one that puts your normal working pressure in the middle of the sweep, not hard against the top of it.

Ranges offered are 200 and 300 PSI on the 2 inch and 2.5 inch Maruti bottom type, 300 and 500 PSI on the 1/4 inch tank gauge, and a dual lb/in2 and kg/cm2 scale on the 4 inch commercial gauge.

What we do not publish: an accuracy class, and any rating for water, oil, steam, hydraulic or chemical service. These are air pressure gauges. If your application needs a certified accuracy class or a liquid filled case, tell us and we will say honestly whether we are the right supplier.
