Tractor and agricultural tyre repair

Repair and inflation equipment for tractor, implement and farm vehicle tyres, in both tubeless and tube construction.

What this work involves

Agricultural tyre work has its own character. A great deal of it is still bias ply, a great deal of it still runs tubes, the casings are large and awkward, and the repair usually has to happen where the machine stopped rather than in a bay.

The consequence is that the products this work needs are not the products a car workshop stocks. Bias ply patches in the larger numbers, tube patches, long levers and the ability to repair cold without a vulcanising machine all matter more here than anywhere else in the trade.

How they are used

A tube repair means getting the tyre off the rim with a lever long enough for the casing, finding the puncture, buffing the tube back to clean rubber and rolling a tube patch of the right shape down over it with a stitcher.

A casing repair is the same discipline on a larger scale. The injury is prepared, a BP patch on a bias ply casing or a CT patch on a radial is chosen to cover it with a good margin of sound rubber all round, and the patch is rolled down from the centre out.

A small tubeless injury away from the shoulder can be plugged from the inside with a mushroom plug patch, whose stem fills the hole while the bonded base seals the liner.

Inflation afterwards is slow on a large casing, which is why a lever operated filling nozzle that can be left holding the valve earns its place.

Who this is for

Village and roadside puncture shops, tractor service technicians, agricultural machinery dealers with a service bay, farm and estate workshops running their own equipment, and agricultural contractors.

Also the distributors who supply them: tractor parts dealers, agri machinery dealers and rural hardware stores.

Choosing between them

Construction decides the patch series before size does. Bias ply casings take a BP patch, radial casings take a CT patch with the printed bead arrows aligned to the bead. Mixing the two is the commonest mistake in agricultural repair, because the bias ply casings that have disappeared elsewhere are still working here.

Tubes take tube patches, not casing patches. Ours are offered as Mini Patch, Tiny Round, Mini Round, Small Round and Small Oval, and the shape should follow the shape of the injury.

Mushroom plugs come in 6 mm, 9 mm and 12 mm stems. Size the stem to the prepared hole after reaming, not to the nail that made it.
